Alpha 0.2.0 Changelog


Welcome to 0.2.0. This update brings many improvements and additions, mostly small.

Enormous notice: I'm restarting. This page and version will be deprecated or deleted soon and a new page will be made.

Before you read, know that this might miss some changes or accidentally include scrapped plans--this version took a really long time and took a lot of work so I hope you'll understand if I wasn't able to perfectly maintain this post throughout development. If you do find something new that wasn't mentioned, let me know. Anyways, behold:

Additions:

  • Ambience (courtesy of the YouTube Audio Library)
  • Baskets and carts Garbage code needs cleaning. Don't use the baskets and carts.
    • Items shrink when placed in them
    • Did my best to make driving carts feel good
      • Side-to-side and wheel turn animation when turning
      • Acceleration and deceleration for forward/back movement and turning
      • Can only turn when moving forward/back
  • New items
  • Unfinished supermarket level (Store 2)
    • Sliding doors
    • Thinner shelves
  • Outside scenery
    • Vehicles pass by at random speeds and intervals
      • Features randomized (color, plates, and presence of antenna)
    • Easter eggs!
  • Hanging signs
  • Blur effects

Changes / Improvements:

  • Game page
    • Title changed from "Store Game Alpha" to "Counter Chaos"
    • Updated page screenshots
  • Player "grip" is stronger so you less easily lose items
  • Slight motion-blur
  • UI freshened up with drop shadows
  • Modified hover behavior - pickup icon persists when holding item
  • Title screen element hitboxes no longer move so placing the mouse at the lowest part of the collider doesn't cause it to vibrate
  • Registers
    • Scan light is now visible (Resolved lighting limit issue)
    • Registers display item prices in the main text box when scanned
    • Changed fonts
  • Made credits text neater; organized more like traditional credits
  • Rearranged the title screen and added second DVD case
  • Minor dev console changes
  • Camera monitors have buttons and static when changing
    • Also added night vision

Fixes:

  • Lighting issues mostly resolved by reducing mixed light sources in test scene and adjusting shadow distance
  • Fixed issue where clicking anywhere on the pause menu threw the held item when unpausing
  • Sealed title screen code so hovered objects automatically reset
  • No visual glitches (i.e. snapping) when focusing a title object while it is moving upwards from hovering, or when rapidly focusing and defocusing title elements.
  • Hovering on objects in-game no longer causes lag

Internal / Optimizations:

  • Got better at coding and totally overhauled existing code which should mean faster updates (hopefully 🤞)
    • Menu base streamlined
    • Dev console command creation streamlined
    • Eliminated load time for dev console
  • Created a base scene and multi-scene level scheme compatible with level loader

[Note: Store 1 is the store from previous versions. (It's labeled that way on the title screen.)]
